The Chinese Embassy said that 21 leading scholars from 10 countries, including China, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, Spain, Greece and Kenya participated in the seminar. Around 300 representatives from various sectors of Sri Lanka and foreign diplomatic corps attended the event.On the sidelines of the seminar, the foreign scholars visited the mega-projects under the framework of the BRI, jointly constructed by China and Sri Lanka, including the Colombo Port City, the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) and the Hambantota Port. The pragmatic cooperation between China and Sri Lanka has made a great contribution to the latter’s development, and also brought tangible benefits to the two countries and two peoples,” he said. China has urged Sri Lanka to concentrate in promoting bilateral pragmatic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework.The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Cheng Xueyuan said that over the past five years, the BRI has developed from an initiative to a reality, from a vision to an important platform, and become more and more popular around the world. The Chinese Embassy in Colombo quoted the Ambassador as making the comments at an international seminar under the theme “BRI at Five Years — Regional and Global Dimensions” jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy and the Bandaranaike Center for International Studies（BCIS）held in Colombo, to mark the 5th Anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
