first_img You usually wouldn’t expect cosplay to be functional, especially if it’s sword-and-shield cosplay from The Legend of Zelda. We are here to destroy your expectations with the Legend of Zelda Hylian Shield Backpack. It’s a big, functional backpack that looks just like the Hylian shield Link has carried on his back since Ocarina of Time. The backpack is big and simple, similar to ThinkGeek’s other shield backpacks. That means it has a big, hard molded plastic shell over a single large compartment, providing plenty of space for your things but not nearly the many accessible, varied pockets of ThinkGeek’s Bags of Holding. Behind the compartment is a padded back with two adjustable faux-leather straps. The back of the backpack also features a sheath for Legend of Zelda Master Sword, a $30 foam cosplay sword designed to look like the Master Sword. They both work great together, and while the sword doesn’t have any utility, it stays securely in the backpack’s sheath so you can just grab a green tunic and green hat and enjoy a solid low-effort Link costume.Just because the backpack has a single large compartment doesn’t mean you can’t organize your things. The compartment features a laptop sleeve for securing your notebook (9 by 12 inches), and a few other pockets on the front of the sleeve for securing cables and adapters. That’s pretty handy, and it still leaves you with a big space that can easily hold a game console and stack of games, or even a Roomba. This probably isn’t an everyday backpack (unless you want to be the coolest kid in school), but for a high-capacity cosplay accessory that lets you show off your Zelda love it’s pretty great. Especially if you have the Master Sword to go with it.For more on Zelda check out our takes on the Champions’ Ballad DLC.
