first_imgIrish Water is set to commence work as part of the new sewerage scheme in parts of Gweedore in the coming weeks, it has been revealed. The new sewerage scheme will improve the water quality in Gweedore Bay and local rivers and streams, provide better treatment of wastewater to protect the environment and ensure Gweedore is in compliance with Irish and European regulations. As part of the initial phase of the project, it will be necessary to install approximately 2.5km of new wastewater network along Factory Road, the Lower Road to the wastewater treatment plant and the link road connecting both. Speaking to Donegal Daily following the news, Cllr Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig said: “I would like to congratulate all of those that have been involved for bringing the project to where it is at the moment.“It shows you what you can be achieved when the community comes together and I am not pretending that I was apart of that but as a local councillor I would say that it is very encouraging.“However, it is disappointing in some sense it is not the scheme that was not originally promised back many years ago.“It is a step forward and will be of benefit for the Gweedore community but, overall the response from state to provide the people of west Donegal with a proper sewerage scheme has been nothing short of a disgrace. “Previous governments also had the opportunity to put proper measures in place, when the government was led by Fianna Fáil, and they chose not too.“And it is also the correct time to start talking about further afield in west Donegal, especially the parish of Anagaire.“I have been with having talks with Irish Water with the need for a sewerage system in Anagaire, the entire parish, instead of waste being put out to the tide.”The works will take approximately three months to complete and will be largely confined to public and private roads. While every effort has been taken to minimise disruption to local residents, it has been announced that there will be traffic management measures and stop-go systems in place while works are being carried out. A road closure will also be required to facilitate a particular section of the installation works. This road closure will take place along the Lower Ardnagappary Road for a period of up to four weeks.Temporary diversions will be in place during this period with the diversion route being communicated to affected residents in advance.Calls for further sewerage schemes in west Donegal as work commences in Gweedore was last modified: August 2nd, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
