Redlands women pull into 3rd-place tie

first_imgAlison Lavine and Ali Bueno scored 13 points apiece and the University of Redlands women’s basketball team moved into a tie for third in the conference with a 58-53 victory over Cal Lutheran. Redlands improved to 12-7 overall, 5-4 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Cal Lutheran dropped to 9-10, 5-4. Laura Mohler made two free throws with less than three seconds to play to lift Occidental past Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 52-51, knocking the Athenas (12-8, 7-2) out of first place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. CMS led 51-50 with less than five seconds to go when an Athenas inbounds pass was intercepted by Mohler. She was fouled and made both ends of the one-and-one. The Athenas, who got 16 points from Naomi Bagdonas, had rallied from a 21-11 halftime deficit to take the lead. Occidental (12-8, 5-4) was led by 16 points by Dior Williams and 12 points and 12 rebounds from Stacie Roshon. SBVC SOFTBALL Laura Murphy added 11 points for Redlands. Mary Placido scored 14 points and Rachel Bates added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Regals. CMS WOMEN center_img Amanda Merendon went 4-for-5 as San Bernardino Valley defeated East L.A. 7-3. She also pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts for the Wolverines (5-3). Laura Barnsted went 3-for-4 with an RBI for SBVC, which plays at Glendale today. SBVC BASEBALL Eric Luera went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but the Wolverines (3-4) struggled on the mound in a blowout loss to Glendale 10-2 in the Mt. SAC tournament. Isaiah Villa took the loss, allowing seven runs on just six hits with four walks.
